Sleyor
A sley is the reed on a loom — the comb of dents that spaces the warp and beats each pick of weft into place. To sley is to draw the warp ends through it. A sleyor is the one who sets the threads in order before a single row can be woven.
Same act, two languages. Orditur lays the warp for the work; Sleyor lays it for the audience. That is the whole reason the spin-out is coherent rather than arbitrary — and the marks should show it without the child looking like enterprise software.
The Beat
Uniform reed dents whose spacing compresses across the frame — the reed driving the weft home.
- How it reads
- Speed and rhythm to anyone; a reed to anyone who knows the object. The compression does all the work, so it survives being shrunk, tinted or animated.
- The tradeoff
- Closest to an audio equaliser, which is a crowded visual field. The tightening gap is what pulls it out of that lane — hold that and it stays yours.
The Draw
The reed held still while a single thread is drawn through it.
- How it reads
- Narrative — a story passing through a frame. The most literal illustration of sleying, and the only direction that carries a second colour naturally.
- The tradeoff
- Two elements means it degrades fastest at favicon scale; the thread thins out before the dents do.
The Heir
Orditur's converging arrowheads redrawn as bowed threads around a single dent.
- How it reads
- Family. Set beside the parent mark the lineage is unmistakable, which is the whole argument for a spin-out rather than a separate company.
- The tradeoff
- Inherits the parent's symmetry, and symmetry reads institutional. It is the most correct and the least young of the three.
Where I land
A — The Beat. It is the only one that holds its idea at 16px, it animates for free (the dents can compress on load, which is literally the object doing its job), and the compression gives it a signature no equaliser has. B is the better illustration and the worse logo. C is the better sibling and the worse consumer mark — worth keeping as the co-branded lockup for the day you need to show parentage.
